Turn the power off.
\nTurn the power on.
\nAbout when you see the following message, hit Ctrl-Break (yes the Pause\/Break key).<\/p>\n
Readonly ROMMON initialized<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
You should be presented with the following prompt:<\/p>\n
rommon 1 ><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Enter confreg 0x2142:<\/p>\n
rommon 1 > confreg 0x2142<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Then, you will get the following message:<\/p>\n
You must reset or power cycle for new config to take effect<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Enter reset:<\/p>\n
rommon 2 > reset<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The router will reboot and start the initial configuration wizard. Just say “No” to skip. This will drop you to a “Router>” prompt.<\/p>\n
Enter enable, and you will presented with a “Router#” prompt.<\/p>\n
Copy your startup-config to running-config (make sure you do not switch the order or you will lose your configuration):<\/p>\n
Router#copy startup-config running-config<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Then reset the password (I set it to “cisco” below.):<\/p>\n
Router#configure term
\nEnter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL\/Z.
\nRouter(config)#enable secret cisco<\/p><\/blockquote>\nThen, type the following:<\/p>\n
config-register 0x2142<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
If you cannot remember the register number from earlier, you can find by issuing the following:<\/p>\n
Router(config)#do show version<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Enter:<\/p>\n
Router(config)#end<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
And save:<\/p>\n
Router#write mem
\nBuilding configuration…
